For a few people it does. For most, without structure, it does not. Not knowing where to start is not the same as being incapable of starting.

  1. Pick one small thing a day. One concept, one explainer, one lesson. Not a course, not a reading list. The unit has to be small enough that you finish it on a bad day.
  2. Recall it before you move on. Close the tab and say what it was. This is the step that converts recognition into recall, and it is the one almost everyone skips.
  3. Rotate deliberately. Science on Monday, history on Tuesday, money on Wednesday, and so on. Rotation is how you get coverage instead of another niche.
  4. Say it out loud to someone. Explaining exposes the gaps you read straight past. It is uncomfortable and it is the fastest diagnostic you have.
  5. Give it three months. Not because it takes that long to work, but because that is roughly when you notice. Compounding is invisible from the inside.

Ten minutes a day, done properly, will outrun a weekend of intense reading every time. The system beats the burst, because the system survives contact with an ordinary week.
